I don’t think I really need to review the matches that occurred on Day 4.  I think I am going to let the fans who watched those matches tell you their thoughts in 140 words or less.  And in case you think I did not watch those matches, you need to slap yourself.

Radwanska v. Larsson

Williams (V) v. Davis

Not a match quote, but a smiling Venus always makes me happy

Williams (S) v. Zvonreva

Match of the Day

Azarenka v. Wozniacki

Because women’s tennis needs to be reminded why Victoria Azarenka is necessary

Stosur v. Vandeweghe

There were lots of other matches today and the results were as expected.  Madison Keys came through a tough match against Casey Dellacqua and Muguruza had to battle hard against Hantuchova.  After struggling in her first round match against Kirsten Flipkens, Dominika Cibulkova seems to be rounding into form, losing just 2 games against the always dangerous Pironkova.  Petra Kvitova is doing a flying under the radar thing at the Open at this time as she is quietly making her way through the draw

As the tournament continues along, it becomes so much more evident how much the bottom half of the women’s draw is suffering as a result of the top seeds being taken out.  While many of the players who were responsible for those losses are still in the tournament, it does make the matches a lot less likely to attract fans of the women’s game.  That being said, who does not love a Cinderalla story.   The Spin’s team picks for Day 5 are below.

Lucie Hradecka vs Julia Goerges (GER)

Karolina Pliskova (CZE) [22] vs Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) [10]

Sara Errani (ITA) [14] vs Yanina Wickmayer (BEL)

Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) [7] vs Caroline Garcia (FRA)

Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) vs Shuai Peng (CHN) [21]
